The brand’s concept is based on the teachings from the “Five Elements Theory” of Chinese philosophy and the “Ten Virtues of Koh”. The “Five Elements Theory” states that every place, person and object in the universe was made from the five basic elements: wood (Moku); fire (Ka); earth (Do); metal (Kon) and water (Sui). The “Ten Virtues of Koh” was written by Ikkyu Sojun, the Zen master of the Muromachi era, during the fifteenth century. It is a sublime verse that extols the benefits derived from the properties of incense.
When lit, “elemense” is designed to incite the experience that enlightens all five senses and hints that the invisible fragrance starts to take on a visible form, elemense. The brand name is a combination of the words “ “element (要素)” and “sense (感覚).” Epitomizing the brand’s name and its concept, we have prepared fragrances for “elemense”.
The incense burner and incense stand designed for elemense are not just devices for burning incense. They are the tools that deliver the “visible” incense experience. Their exquisite design enhances the beautiful scenery as the smoke from the incense slowly floats into the air and the ash gently falls. No detail was missed in designing the structure and selecting the materials. And the finest techniques were applied in creating the burner and the stand.
The essence of elemense was brought to life by the collaboration of the two West Coast based creative minds: Takuhiro Shinomoto, an industrial designer; and Tamotsu Yagi, a creative director.
Enjoy the luscious experience as all five senses awaken with the fragrances of “elemense.”
